A NEURAL NET FOR MOTIVATED ELEMENTARY PROBLEM SOLVING,

Abstract

The neutral net constructed here reproduced the behavior of a simple 'animal' who explores for food when hungry and returns to a 'den' under the drive of homing. The animal learns to avoid danger, maintains knowledge of position relative to a goal point, and tries to find shortest paths from one goal point to another. The behavior of the net is demonstrated by digital computation. A brief critique of neural net simulation of problem solving is given. (Author)
