VISCOELASTIC STRESS CONCENTRATION FACTORS.

Abstract

Through the use of a new photoviscoelastic material, stereospecific polybutadiene, an exploratory photomechanical investigation was made of viscoelastic stress concentration factors in bars loaded in dead weight tension. Despite large creep deformations of the originally circular holes and circular arc fillets in the bars, the stress concentration factors were observed to change by only about 25 percent of the initial values, which were in fair agreement with existing data on elastic concentrations.
