DETECTION OF LIQUID CRYSTAL GASES (REACTIVE MATERIALS)

Abstract

A set of reactive liquid crystal materials were developed which are capable of detecting quantities (10 ppm or less) of HCl, HF, hydrazine, UDMH, and nitrogen dioxide. The materials exhibit a change in color transition temperature upon exposure to these contaminant gases or vapors. Except for HF and HCl, the contaminants are readily distinguished from each other.
