THE DESIGNING OF EXTRAPOLATING DISCRETE SERVO SYSTEMS,

Abstract

An extrapolating servo system is defined as a special type of discrete system whose output reproduces a continuous signal coinciding at discrete moments of time with the input signal and where there is produced continuously a polynomial on the basis of the preceding discrete points (or near them); by means of the polynomial there is made an extrapolation and prediction of the future discrete value of the input signal. Such extrapolation properties are of value in the digital control of computers for reduction of quantity of stored data. The extrapolation system is based on the possibility of generating any polynomial by means of integrators. When ideal integrators are connected in series and appropriate initial biases are fed into the input of each, from the output of the last integrator there may be obtained a voltage varying according to the law of any polynomial. An example is given for a polynomial of third degree.
