SULFENIC ACIDS AND THEIR DERIVATIVES. XLI. SULFENYL NITRATES AND SULFINYL RADICALS,

Abstract

Sulfenyl nitrates, RSONO2, represent a novel class of sulfenyl compounds. The preparation of the first examples is described and some of their properties are recorded. The near-quantitative conversion of sulfenyl nitrates to thiolsulfonate esters (2 RSONO2 yields RSO2SR + 2NO2) is demonstrated and interpreted as a dimerization reaction of sulfinyl radicals.
