NOTE ON THE EFFECT OF NON-LINEAR ACCELERATIONS IN THE OCEANIC EKMAN LAYER.

Abstract

It is shown theoretically that the concept of an Ekman layer in the wind-driven oceanic circulation is no longer valid when the layer gets thin, and non-linear acceleration terms must be considered. The corrections may be noticeable in local regions of the ocean with strong wind gradient. (Author)
