SUNSPOTS: THEORY,

Abstract

This introductory lecture on the theory of sunspots consists of three parts. The first part is devoted to a discussion of some pertinent sunspot observations. The second part reviews hydromagnetic stability calculations which are applicable to sunspots. Two recent theoretical sunspot models are discussed in the third part. (Author)
