SCHOOL VALIDATION OF THE BASIC TEST BATTERY AND OF OTHER CLASSIFICATION TESTS (1962-1963),
Abstract
The Basic Test Battery (BTB) is used in the selection and classification of enlisted men for Class 'A' schools. The report presents the results of the validation of Form 6 of the BTB as a predictor of final school grade in 91 Class 'A' schools. In addition to the four BTB subtests, the Electronics Technician Selection Test, Radio Code Test, and Sonar Pitch Memory Test, were included in the analyses. Each sample was validated independently using graduated and academically disenrolled students attending school during the 1962-1963 period. All analyses were of a correlational nature (zero-order, multiple regression, and linear sum) and results were reported with and without correction for restriction in range. The most noteworthy finding was the increase in prediction when all of the BTB tests were used in the regression equation, rather than following the traditional practice of using cutting scores on one or more subtests in the battery. The former method has largely been ignored in the area of recruit classification because of prohibitive time-costs. (Author)
