EFFECTS OF EXTERNAL FORCES (TRANSIENT AND PERMANENT).

Abstract

Investigations were made of the reactions of a vibrating piezoelectric crystal plate to the application of external forces and torques, including the possibility of transient effects. Experiments are reported dealing with the effects of the superposition of forces and of combinations of forces. The results of applying considerably larger tensile forces than any previously used are discussed. Further work on the effects of torsional stresses about various axes is reported. Arrangements for setting up shearing stresses are being developed. A report of further advances in the theory in terms of nonlinear behavior is included. (Author)
