A STUDY OF THE PROTEIN DIFFERENCES IN DDT RESISTANT AND NON-RESISTANT GERMAN ROACHES OR HOUSE FLIES.

Abstract

Techniques have been developed whereby good yields of cell-free, lipid body free extracts of German Roaches can be obtained. Electrophoresis of these extracts using the high resolution technique of Ornstein and Davies shows several bands present in the resistant strain which were not present in the non-resistant strain. These bands appeared in what is normally the far Beta or early Gamma region of the electrophoretogram. Attempts to isolate these bands after electrophoresis have thus far been unsuccessful, therefore a characterization of the proteins involved has not been made. Fractionation of the roach extracts of Sephadex G-100 have shown very definite strain differences. However further quantitation of these differences has not been possible at this time. (Author)
