THE CONDENSED MATRIX METHOD.

Abstract

A method for compacting the shifted matrix technique is presented for the calculation of state vectors in mechanical systems. The method allows a saving in computer memory space of 75% compared to direct matrix analysis. The method is illustrated with examples involving rotational vibrations of elastic gear trains, including a branched gear train. The method leads to a particularly simple algorithm applicable to desk calculations as well. (Author)
