LEAST SQUARES LINEAR FITS TO DATA.
Abstract
The standard method of determining the line of best fit under the least square error criterion gives different results depending on which variable is selected as the dependent variable. In the case in which all variables are subject to error rather than only the dependent variable, this situation is clearly unsatisfactory. This report presents a method of determining linear fits when all variables are subject to error. (Author)
