PENTACHLOROPHENYL ORGANOMERCURY COMPOUNDS,

Abstract

The following pentachlorophenyl derivatives of mercury have been prepared; (C6Cl5)2Hg, C6Cl5HgCl, C6Cl5HgCH3 and C6Cl5HgC6H5, Acid attack on the latter two species leads to scission of the C6Cl5-Hg and C6H5-Hg bonds respectively, in agreement with the C6F5-Hg compounds. Like the latter, these pentachlorophenyl derivatives have a very high thermal stability. The ease of preparation and cost-differential compared to the fluorine derivative and the possibility for metal-ring halogen interaction suggest this grouping as deserving of further investigation.
