AN EFFORT TO IDENTIFY STRESS-PRONE AND STRESS-RESISTANT CADETS.

Abstract

In an effort to identify cadets who are stress-prone and stress-resistant, attempts were made to introduce certain experimental stresses while New Cadets were firing on the rifle range. In addition, the relationship between anxiety and performance during the normally occurring stress of Record Firing was investigated. A thorough analysis of the results failed to indicate that the attempts to introduce stress had been effective, or that reaction to the stress of Record Firing was related to anxiety. Therefore, there was no basis on which to classify cadets as stress-prone or stress-resistant. It is suggested that cadets may be generally stress-resistant, or that they were simply unaffected, to the relatively mild stresses used in the study. (Author)
