BASIC STUDIES ON THERMOELECTRIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

Platinum antimonide was investigated with emphasis on measurements of thermal conductivity. A study of the GeTeTlBiTe2 system contributed to the understanding of the mechanical properties of GeTe and enabled the production of materials with a high figure of merit and better mechanical properties. Attempts were made to measure the anisotropy of the thermal conductivity of selenium, but no results have been obtained so far. The conditions under which Ettingshausen and magnetically enhanced Peltier effect devices have sufficiently high performance to be useful were investigated. A general review of the theory of thermal conductivity in solids was written.
