IMPROVEMENT OF BOUNDS TO EIGENVALUES OF OPERATORS OF THE FORM T*T,

Abstract

For the eigenvalue problems that arise in the theory of vibration of continuous elastic systems, e.g. threedimensional solids, shells, plates, rods, bars, etc., it is useful to have auxiliary methods capable of improving and refining the rigorous upper and lower bounds that can be found by the Rayleigh-Ritz and comparison operator procedures. A method is presented which should be quite useful in problems of this kind.
