LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS AND RESEARCH TOWARD THE DEVELOPMENT OF NICKEL CADMIUM ALKALINE STORAGE BATTERIES.

Abstract

A brief statement of the work accomplished is presented. The work includes a general investigation, a preparation of a schedule of required experimental equipment and ordering of same and tests on sample German sintered plates. Factors involved in the investigation include: (a) Methods of preparation and the characteristics of metal powders and the effects of sintering time vs. temperature. (b) Differences in German procedures in manufacture of sintered plates in 1937 and during the recent war. (c) Comparison of flat pocket type Ni-Cad and sintered plate type Ni-Cad batteries as to relative weights and ampere hour capacities per unit volume, relative volumes and ampere hour capacities per unit weight and relative volumes and weights per unit of ampere hour capacity. (d) Use of Lithia in the electrolyte. (e) Possible factors affecting the life of the sintered plate battery. (Author)
