EVOLUTION OF INDIVIDUAL CUMULUS,

Abstract

In this paper, the evolution of individual cumulus is studied with basic equations involving the drag effect of water droplets and the phase transformation of moisture (including evaporation caused by entrainment). Considering individual cumulus as a uniform cloud parcel, calculations are made for the thermal conditions and other properties in the evolution process. It is shown that the drag and phase transformation effects on cloud development are important. The results are discussed and compared with observations made in China, and fair agreement is found in many aspects. (Author)
