TRANSITION METALS IN LAALO3.

Abstract

Optical absorption and EPR studies have been made of Cr and Co in LaAlO3 grown by flame fusion. Crystal field values have been established as follows: Dq/B = 3.18 for Cr(3+), 0.965 for Co(2+), and 3.08 for Co(3+) in LaAlO3. Local site symmetries for the two dopants, as observed by EPR, are discussed. (Author)
