A FOUR SIDED ARRAY OF ONE TURN HELICAL ANTENNAS AND THE EFFECTS OF GROUND PLANES.

Abstract

The purpose is to develop an array, of 4 one turn helices, that gives circular polarization, omnidirectional coverage, and maximum power at 18 degrees above a ground plane. Free space radiation and terminal impedance are compared for several helices and parameter changes. Radiation is measured above a conducting plane, absorbent material and wire grids. Free space radiation from the array of center lead helices has omni-directional coverage and circular polarization within 4db. The radiation from the array above a wire grid is aligned near 18 degrees, has omni-directional coverage and circular polarization within 10db. (Author)
