MULTITRIAL FREE RECALL: EFFECTS OF CLUSTERED PRESENTATION AND INSTRUCTIONS.

Abstract

Clustered (compared with separated) presentation of items from the same class facilitated performance during multitrial free recall. The effect was least pronounced when Ss were told about the basis for classifying the items and were instructed to recall the items in clusters; the effect was most pronounced when Ss were not given such instructions.
