EXPERIMENTAL METHODS FOR DETERMINING SHEAR MODULUS OF FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE MATERIALS

Abstract

The report presents four acceptable methods for determining the shear modulus of orthotropic materials. Two methods are appropriate for determining in-plane shear modulus and two others are for determining 'bending' shear modulus which is applicable in calculating buckling loads of laminated plates and shells. A discussion of each method precedes the method of experimental determination. The derivation of all pertinent equations are presented.
