HYDROXYINDOLE OXIDASE IN THE CRYSTALLINE STYLE OF PINNA NOBILIS,

Abstract

Experiments were conducted on the hydroxyindole oxidase activity of an enzyme present in crystalline Pinna nobilis. It is shown that a homogenate of the crystalline style oxidizes psilocine with the formation of a blue pigment. This activity was also observed in the gill plates of Mytilus edulis and is described as an expression of the phenol oxidase activity in these tissues. This finding is discussed in relation to earlier observations on the presence of a phenoloxidase in mollusks. (Author)
