EQUATIONS OF MOTION IN CIRCULAR MOTION TERMS FOR THE LIMACON,

Abstract

Equations of motion for the limacon curve are developed for use in the study of vestibular function as related to vehicular motion. The equations are transformed from polar coordinate terms given in terms of the radius vector and the polar angle to circular motion terms given in terms of the radius of curvature and central angle of the circle of curvature. This permits comparison of vestibular function studies done in vehicles with those done on human centrifuges. Equations were derived for defining the accelerations of interest in studying vestibular effect on humans moving along the limacon. While conclusions are specific to the immediate program, basic approaches were developed for defining equations of the form rho = f (theta) in terms of circular motion. (Author)
