THE QUASI-STATIC FIELDS OF A HORIZONTAL MAGNETIC DIPOLE.

Abstract

The electric field components produced by a horizontal magnetic dipole are derived for the quasi-static range (absolute value of gamma sub o rho << 1) and z = h = 0. The magnetic field components which have previously been derived are included for completeness. The special cases of absolute value of gamma sub 1 rho > 1 and absolute value of gamma sub 1 rho < 1, and the effect of burying the transmitting and receiving dipoles are examined for both the electric and magnetic field components. Gamma sub 0 is the upper half space (free space) propagation constant. Gamma sub 1 is the lower half space (the earth) propagation constant. Rho is the radial distance in a cylindrical coordinate system.
