THE EFFECT OF GLUCOSE ON CATION TRANSPORT.

Abstract

The studies indicate that the accumulation of fluid in the cholera-infected intestinal loop is more related to excessive fluid production rather than to an absorption or sodium pump failure. The studies in human cholera patients are consistent with this conclusion. These patients can absorb glucose and this causes a silmultaneous increase in sodium absorption by the intestine. This finding may prove to have therapeutic value. (Author)
