RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WORK ON DEVELOPMENT OF THIN ORGANIC ROLLED FILM CAPACITOR.

Abstract

Progress is reported on a program to improve the characteristics of parylene coated foil capacitor and to develop a metallized parylene capacitor capable of operating over the temperature range of -55C to 125C at a rated voltage of 100 VDC, whose capacitance volume ratio is one-half that of a 50 volt metallized Mylar capacitor. Such capacitor to exhibit a dissipation factor less than 0.25%; 250 megohm microfarad minimum insulation resistance at 125C; temperature coefficient less than 300 ppm/C; 200% dielectric voltage withstand; less than 5% change in capacitance after life. Topics include: parylene coated foil capacitors (improved cleanliness and smoothness of substrate foil, effects of core material and configuration, case insulation); parylene coated metallized capacitors (design considerations, capacitor web development).
