CONDUCTION PROCESSES, NORMAL MODES, AND DRIFT INSTABILITIES IN BULK SEMICONDUCTORS,

Abstract

A general small-signal analysis of wave propagation in semiconductor materials due to drifting majority carriers and electromagnetic fields is presented. The theory is basically independent of details of energy band structure and minority carriers, and is expressed in terms of macroscopic averages of the carrier distributions. The theory is expressed in terms of independent normal modes of wave disturbances in a uniform finite-diameter cylindrical semiconductor. (Author)
