RADAR SCATTERING FROM SATELLITE WAKES.

Abstract

A satellite traversing its ionized ambient surroundings possesses an elongated wake. The objective of the effort reported has been to verify that this wake region has a radar cross-section large compared to the geometrical cross-section of the satellite itself. A detailed method is established for this calculation, and by carrying out the calculation for representative conditions, the enhancement is shown possible. (Author)
