EVALUATION OF ELECTRON MULTIPLIER TUBE AND CIRCUITRY.

Abstract

The secondary emission electron multiplier tube type 8428 was evaluated to determine operating conditions and power supply requirements. Effect of interelectrode voltage variation on output pulse voltage was determined. Circuits for supplying dynode voltages, overload protection, and grid (1) input were designed. Grid (1) characteristics were investigated and proper bias voltage and input signal level were set. Tube characteristics were measured at several anode voltage levels and the effect of varying the duty cycle was measured. Data, circuit diagrams, and photographs of the output pulse are included. It was found that the output pulse characteristics of the 8428 are well suited for driving a TWT grid. (Author)
