ION OSCILLATIONS IN A WEAKLY TURBULENT PLASMA,

Abstract

Ion oscillations in a high temperature electron-ion plasma with high frequency turbulent fluctuations are investigated by generalizing the quasi-linear theory to a spatially inhomogeneous system. It is found that the feedback effect of the high frequency fluctuation on the low frequency oscillation in the system gives rise to a parametric growth of the ion acoustic mode even if the system has a stable velocity distribution with respect to the ion acoustic mode.
