CARBORANE-SILOXANE ELASTOMERS

Abstract

Polymers of structure-(CH3)2Si(CH2)3CB10H10C(CH2)3 Si(CH3)2(-OSi(CH3) 2) sub O, 1 and 2 were found to be susceptible to thermal oxidation at about 240C. Materials of structure-Si(CH3)2B10H10C(CH2)3-5CB10H10CSi(CH3)2O are expected to resist thermal oxidative attack due to the stabilization of silyl methyl groups by carborane. An investigation of the preparation of precursors having the structures HCB10H10C(CH2)3-5CB10H10CH was initiated and compounds with 3 and 4 methylene groups have been prepared.
