ON THE RATE OF SPREADING OF FATIGUE CRACKS,

Abstract

Data of Tests show that fatigue crack may develop during stresses considerably below the fatigue limit. There exists a minimum value of amplitudes of oscillations, below which fatigue crack does not spread. The history of the loadings and the magnitude of overload up to the moment of formation of the crack practically do not affect the rate of its spreading. The established law-governing principles are verified by experimental data. The terminal period in development of crack does not obey the principles being proposed. As a result of processing the experimental data law-governing principles of the spreading of fatigue cracks are obtained. (Author)
