THE AUTOMATIC CONSTUCTION OF COMPUTATIONAL ALGORITHMS.
Abstract
Several documents by Professor G. I. Marchuk (Director of the Computer Center at the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, at Novosibirsk) are translated dealing with the automatic construction of computational algorithms for finding numerical solutions to a wide variety of problems, including linear equations, integral equations, ordinary differential equations(initialvalue and boundary-value), and partial differential equations (elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic). Finite-difference equations are constructed systematically by the 'method of splitting', based on the replacement of operators by the sum of simpler operators (e.g. as in alternating-direction methods).
