INFRARED SPECTRA OF POLYATOMIC HIGH TEMPERATURE MOLECULES.

Abstract

The far infrared absorption spectra of lithium chloride and lithium fluoride vaporization species trapped in inert solids at liquid hydrogen temperature were investigated. The spectral range 650/cm to 140/cm were covered. The out-of-plane bending vibration of the dimer was assigned for both halides investigated. Additional absorptions were observed and their assignments are discussed. Two absorptions were observed for lithium fluoride which give isotopic substitution patterns characteristic of trimer bands.
