SOLAR SYSTEM MAGNETIC FIELDS AND PLASMAS.

Abstract

The report begins with the magnetic fields observed on the surface of the sun, moves out to interplanetary fields and plasmas and their relation to these solar magnetic fields, and finally come to earth in a plasma physics laboratory. Against this background the report presents some recent results obtained in collaboration with N. F. Ness with the magnetometer experiment on the IMP-1 satellite as supplemented with observations obtained in collaboration with R. Howard with the Mount Wilson Observatory solar magnetograph. (Author)
