THE RESPONSE OF A BEAM TO AN IMPACT LOADING.

Abstract

The thesis discusses several theories which have been used to describe the response of a beam to an impact loading. Several of these theories were developed for steady state applications but have been used to estimate the response due to an impact loading. The response of the beam is divided into three phases and the conclusion is reached that each phase of the response is best described by a different theory. (Author)
