ELECTRON BEAM TECHNIQUES FOR FABRICATION AND ASSEMBLY OF PARTS FOR ELECTRON TUBES.

Abstract

The time-yield indices of the majority of the 6544 electron beam welding operations have been demonstrated; the results compare favorably with the equivalent indices estimated in Phase II, indicating that the contractual production rate will be complied with. 6914 preproduction tube candidates have been fabricated using tooling and techniques developed during this program. The primary cause of 6914 tube rejection is attributed to contamination which is recognized as a problem common to the photocathode tube industry; steps are being taken to minimize this contamination in pilot line production tubes.
