PULSE TESTING OF AN APACHE AND CAJUN SOLID ROCKET MOTOR FOR RESONANCE.

Abstract

The possibility of inducing combustion instability in the Apache and Cajun solid propellant rocket motors was investigated by introducing an acoustic disturbance: pulse tubes loaded with black powder were fired. One Apache and one Cajun rocket motor were tested. The reduced data show that the acoustic disturbances introduced into the motors by the firing of the pulse tubes rapidly dampened out. Since the scope of the testing was limited, it is not possible to conclude absolutely that the Apache or Cajun will never resonate; however, the probability of resonance is very slight. (Author)
