AUTOIONIZATION EFFECTS IN ULTRAVIOLET ABSORPTION SPECTRA OF HOT GASES,

Abstract

Autoionization effects present in the ultraviolet absorption spectra of a number of atomic vapours (e.g. of the alkaline earths Ca-Ba, the Group III A elements Al-Tl and those of Group IV B, Si-Pb), are described, and some of the detail is interpreted qualitatively in the framework of the theory of lineshapes ('Beutler-Fano profiles'), recently put forward by Fano.
