EVALUATION OF INORGANIC NITRATES AS HEAT TEST STANDARDS. ICRPG WORKING GROUP ON ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY. ROUND ROBIN NO. 24

Abstract

Al(NO3)3.9H2O and Cu(NO3)2.3H2O are suitable for use as standards in the potassium iodide and methyl violet heat tests. In addition to being more stable than the organic nitrates currently used as standards, these inorganic nitrates are safer to store and easier to obtain at a prescribed level of purity. Standardization of the heat test can be improved if inorganic nitrates are distributed with the test papers along with a statement of the test time at a given temperature.
