COMPARATIVE STUDY OF COLLAGEN AND ELASTIN IN VARIOUS ANIMAL AND HUMAN LUNGS.

Abstract

Lung tissues of 8 mammalian species, including man, were assayed for collagen and elastin content. Four distinct groups were found with respect to total collagen content; 2 distinct groups with reference to the elastin content. Collagen/elastin ratios are reported. Anatomical and biochemical studies on this subject are compared and no close correlation was demonstrated. (Author)
