QUANTITATIVE STUDIES BY OPTICAL SPECTROSCOPY OF ENERGY EXCHANGE MECHANISMS IN SIMPLE GASES AND SOLIDS.

Abstract

Free-carrier mobility studies were made in condensed Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe using a crystal counter technique. Crystal growth methods based on Bridgmen's technique were developed to permit growth of solid samples directly between the electrodes. Electron-ion pairs were generated in the materials by means of a Po210 alpha-particle source which was electro-chemically deposited on one electrode of the parallel electrode arrangement.
