VELOCITY TAPERING IN RING-AND-BAR STRUCTURES.

Abstract

Cold-test measurements were made on four ringand-bar slow-wave structures. The effects of dielectric support rods and a shield on the phase velocity and impedance of the structures are shown in a series of graphs. Couplers for use with the structures were designed and are discussed; the elliptic cavity coupler was found to be the best type for the ring-and-bar structure. An S-band mediumpower traveling-wave tube was built and tested. The design of a velocity-tapered ring-and-bar structure is presented. (Author)
