A MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF THE RESPIRATORY CONTROLLER,

Abstract

A mathematical model of the respiratory controller is presented. In an attempt to improve current formulations, details previously neglected are incorporated. However, the model is not stable because the allowance for diffusion in tissue was neglected. A subsequent report will evaluate a model incorporating this feature and also an analysis of a model space of the respiratory controller. It is concluded that diffusion parallel to the blood flow axis is an important process in the exchange of gases between blood and tissue. (Author)
