PREPARATION OF POLYSILANES AND POLYSILARYLENES,

Abstract

The overall objective of the program is to prepare polymers which can serve as thermally stable structural adhesives or resins at service temperatures up to 538C (1000F). The report covers a portion of the work done on the synthesis of compounds containing Si-Si and Si-phenyl bonds. Dodecaphenylcyclohexasilane, polysilphenylene, and polysilbiphenylene were prepared by the Wurtz-Fittig reaction. These molecules were identified and characterized. (Author)
