NOL COPPER-BALL ACCELEROMETERS

Abstract

The report describes a number of ball-crusher, peak-reading accelerometers and their application for recording simple as well as complex shocks. Some concepts on shock spectra, as they apply to these devices, and a new method for determining the peak of a shock recorded with preset copper-ball accelerometers are discussed. Ten accelerometer models cover a shock range from approximately 30 g to 450,000 g; their corresponding natural frequencies range from 244 cps to 14,800 cps.
