A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO THE BEHAVIOR OF METAL SOAP-OIL SYSTEMS,

Abstract

Application of the solubility parameter concept to micellar and crystalline metal soap dispersions in low -polarity solvents can give some order to effects of the solvent in these systems. The ASTM dropping point temperature is shown to be a function of solubility parameter, and it is proposed that dropping points can be estimated when solubility parameters are known. A new method for estimating the solubility parameter of an oil, based on its interaction with soap, is also suggested. (Author)
