FURTHER RESULTS ON ACOUSTIC RADIATION FROM A FINITE CYLINDER

Abstract

The earlier work on acoustic radiation from a cylinder was extended by working out the low frequency approximation and doing more machine calculations. A variety of boundary conditions and cylinder height to diameter ratios were treated in the low frequency approximation, and the results were used to study the limitations of the method of calculation. The machine calculations were performed for cases in which the method should yield reliable far field results. Several different cases of cylinders vibrating symmetrically on the ends with uniform and parabolic velocity distributions were treated. Directivity patterns and radiation resistances were obtained which should be useful in transducer design work.
