ON THE EFFECTS OF THE VERTICAL WIND SHEAR; ON THE DEVELOPMENT AND STRUCTURE OF CONVECTION,

Abstract

In this paper the effects of vertical wind shear on the development and the structure of convection are investigated theoretically. Firstly, from the calculations of perturbation growth rate, the relative importance of the vertical wind shear compared to the unstable stratification is discussed quantitatively. Secondly, the circulation of convection as shown by calculation is similar to that found in thunderstorm and in shower cloud. (Author)
